How To Keep Cool In Your Home This Summer

There is no denying that summer is in full swing! But the heatwave has been enough to make even the biggest sun worshipers cry for some cool down time. The heat can sometimes make it hard to even breathe in your own home, not to mention how difficult it is to get to sleep. Poor quality of sleep can increase stress levels which in turn effects your health, happiness, relationships and work performance. It is important to be comfortable in your own home and these humid and stuffy conditions can make that a seemingly impossible goal. There are some tweaks and changes you can make to improve your home comfort, making it nice and cool in the summer as well as warm in the winter.
Have A Clear Out – It can be hard to create a fresh feel at home on stuffy summer days, and dust and heat do not mix well together. Having less clutter and more space will make it easier to clean your home. Less time cleaning means less time to work up an uncomfortable sweat, and less clutter means less dust.
Patio Doors And Shutters – Patio or bi-fold doors are a fantastic addition to your home. Not only do they look nice and improve the airflow on a stuffy day, but having doors open onto the patio or garden area will encourage you and your family to spend time outside while you home gets some much needed fresh air.
Flooring And Insulation – Thick carpets and rugs provide insulation which retains heat. Wood and laminate flooring will enable your rooms to keep cooler. You can always use the rugs in the cooler months. You may also consider removing some loft insulation during the summer time.
Fans – Fans can be a great help on a hot day, from small desk fans and hand helds, to larger standalone fans. However, these can sometimes just circulate warm air which doesn’t really provide the freshness needed. Try placing your fans pointing slightly towards the window so it can push the hot air out. You can also set ceiling fans to anti-clockwise so they push the hot air away.
Air Conditioning – This may seem like a costly option, but you will get your money’s worth on those humid days!

You will hopefully now be able to enjoy the cool comfort of your home this summer and relax. There’s no place like home!
