Things we forget to clean around the home

Maid in Essex

Around the home, there are things we do all the time, such as vacuum the carpets, mop the floors, change the beds and wash our clothes. However, what about all those other jobs that may get overlooked? We’ve compiled a list of jobs that might be on your list of ‘things to do’ next time around.

Washing machine

Mildew and black mould build up around the rubber seal and inside the dispenser drawer. Wash thoroughly to keep your washing machine in tip-top condition.

Pillows and mattress

We don’t like to think about it, but our pillows absorb dead skin cells, saliva and sweat throughout the night. When washing pillows, it’s always best to follow the label guidelines. For mattresses, a simple vacuuming over the top when you change the sheets is all that’s needed.

Vacuum filter

We would recommend that the filter is removed and cleaned once a fortnight, to allow the vacuum to work efficiently. Stale smells also can linger in vacuums if the filter isn’t clean.

Fridge door and handle

It’s no surprise that the fridge door and handle is one of the most germ-ridden areas in your kitchen. Easy to forget, just a wipe down with a warm soapy cloth or multi-purpose anti-bacterial wipe every day will soon fix this. This also goes for other door handles and light switches around the home.

Blinds and curtains

Over time, dust and grime gather on window dressings and can really make a place look dirty. Regular dusting with a vacuum and a wet cloth can make all the difference.

Coffee maker

Unemptied drip tray, coffee splashes and limescale all mount up to a very mucky maker. Wipe down on a regular basis and descale once in a while, to keep it looking a good as the day you bought it.

Paintwork

Skirting boards, bannisters and radiators aren’t normally on the list but look closer and you’ll see that they should be. A bucket of warm soapy water will have all those dirty marks off in a jiffy.

House plants

A great way to keep house plants dust-free is to give them a shower. Put them under the shower indoors or outdoors in the rain, for a fresher look.

Condenser dryer

Dryer fluff should be cleaned out regularly to prevent fires and keep your dryer working efficiently. However, the condenser unit may get overlooked from time to time. Ensure this is rinsed through, in accordance with manufacturers guidelines.

Kitchen bin

Bins get dirty very quickly. A thorough clean inside, as well as outside, will prevent smells and unwanted germs gathering. Hot soapy water will tackle this job head-on.

We hope all these things are a good reminder to keep up with the household chores but if you’re looking for a trustworthy domestic cleaning company to help with jobs around the home, then please give Maid In Essex a call on 0800 014 1960.
